Job Req.
To qualify for this position, you must be able to demonstrate a substantial track record of successful project implementation while maintaining a stable production environment. You should have strong skills in logical data modeling of medium to complex business logic, physical database design for multiple environments, documenting database backup and recovery procedures, performance monitoring and tuning, establishing database security procedures, problem-solving, application database support, and production database backup and recovery. Also, good communication skills are a requirement in order to work closely with development and operational teams. Though this is basically a UNIX/ORACLE office, approximately 10% of the work will be with a mainframe DB2 database. This position will require being on a 24x7 call rotation with one other DBA. Any experience with Mainframe COBOL development, LDAP tuning, or RACF ID management should be highlighted in the resume, as these would be considered major pluses for any applicant.

Major responsibilities:

• Provide database design and implementation role for GTA on application development projects. • Install, configure, support and maintain Oracle databases residing on UNIX platforms in development, test and production environments. • Support and maintain DB2 databases residing on Mainframe platform in development, test and production. • Support structured change and release management. • Set and evangelize standards for development and production utilizing Oracle. • Provide capacity planning, performance tuning, optimization and process improvement. • Create, maintain and tune stored procedures, triggers and scripts for optimal performance. • Create and maintain database documentation. • Implement database and application monitoring. • Create and implement functional and stress testing plans for database designs. • Support customer implementations, customizations, production version changes and conversions. • Provide recommendations to developers on ways to improve application performance. • Use monitoring and troubleshooting utilities to diagnose problems. • Provide 24x7 rotating support for production databases • High integrity and honesty. • Desire to gain knowledge through formal and informal training. • Able to deal with unresolved situations, frequent changes, delays or unexpected events. • Strong communications skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Five years of demonstrated production support of Oracle database systems on UNIX platform with an emphasis on production support of important, high-capacity database systems; significant experience in supporting application components. • Five years of demonstrated experience as a development DBA on application development projects. • Three years experience utilizing Oracle database tools • One year experience utilizing mainframe DB2 and tools • Completion of an associate’s degree in programming/systems, computer science, mathematics or related field, which can be substituted with equivalent work experience. Preferred Qualifications: • At least three years of experience in environments with over 200 servers. • Experience with tuning Oracle databases and database environments • Experience with COBOL • Experience with LDAP • Experience with software development methodologies. • Experience in Microsoft SQL, DB2 database tools, and XML. • Expertise with system disaster recovery planning and implementation. • Expertise with evaluation and tuning database queries, stored procedures and views. • Three or more years experience with middleware tools and utilities to support monitoring database migration and replication
