Systems Engineer
As part of Metro Trains’s Engineering department, the responsibility of this post is to provide product knowledge and support to production and the customer in their system whilst maintaining and improving the reliability and availability of the rolling stock and trackside equipment.
You will be required to : -
· Achieve acceptable performance in terms of reliability, availability, safety and cost of the systems and equipment for which they are responsible.
· Manage to closure logged technical issues associated with systems and equipment.
· Investigate Hazardous and Safety Related Incidents.
· Ensure that Hazardous Incident and Safety Related Recommendations are implemented that affect systems and equipment.
· Establish, with the co-operation of suppliers, customers and other functions, the root causes of failures of systems and equipment.
· Develop, validate and implement product enhancements that improve the reliability, availability and safety of systems and equipment.
· Produce clear and concise technical documentation in the form of specifications, test procedures, modification instructions, maintenance and safety instructions and technical reports.
· Be responsible for and control the technical documentation associated with systems and equipment in conformance with Company processes, procedures and systems.
· Provide continued assurance of the compliance of systems and equipment to mandatory standards and legislative requirements.
· Work with others to enhance the effectiveness of maintenance processes, including the revision of Work Instructions where applicable.
· Work with other members of all Metro Trains engineering teams to develop cross system solutions and solutions that are common to more than one fleet of trains.
· Manage the electronic workshop and its staff, where appropriate.
Key skills and requirements for the role include:-
· Experience within the relevant engineering role
· Minimum requirement of Honours degree or HND qualification
· Railway experience would be an advantage
· Able to work to specifications and standards
· Able to produce clear technical documentation
· Awareness of quality & safety management processes
· Proficient in the use of MS Office software
· Able to use MS Project is desirable
