You will work in the Buzz engineering team in the Frontdoor Organization (http://buzz.yahoo.com). Buzz is a new social news property that creates algorithms to rank large amount of publications on the web. You will impact millions of users by finding the most relevant news stories.
We are looking for an engineer with background in machine learning and can think out-of-the-box. You will work on a team that is responsibility for creating algorithms to rank news articles. You will mine the large web user data and use them to improve news article relevance. This extremely challenging task requires a good understanding of the general knowledge on data modeling and machine learning technology. A suitable candidate for this position will be a highly motivated person with innovated ideas and solid coding skills, who will be able to work closely with the team to create the best news ranking system.
Minimum Job Qualifications
* Solid statistical knowledge and intuition.
* Familiar with various web technologies (http, XML).
* Working experience with Unix (i.e. Linux or FreeBSD).
* Programming experience with C, C++ or Java.
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
* Excellent team work and interpersonal skills.
* BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
Preferable Job Qualifications
* MS or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
* Experience in R&D of statistical modeling, machine learning, information retrieval and data mining, ideally on a Web scale.
* Fluency in PHP, Python, Perl, or another scripting language desired.
* Strong interest in research and publication of machine learning and related fields.
